An American who is the head softball coach at William Paterson University in New Jersey is to be the head coach of the Israeli National team which will be playing its first games this summer in preparation for the 2008 summer Olympics in China.
It’s a great honor,” said Hallie Cohen who has coached the Pioneers for 12 seasons. "It’s an honor to be coaching on the international level and an honor being a Jewish female representing Israel."
According to Israel Baseball League president Larry Baras, with the help of Cohen they are looking to qualify for the 2008 Olympics.
"We were looking for somebody who could teach the girls and make them better players, who could relate to them and coach them while making them into a team. Hallie has all of the qualities we were looking for," he said.
Cohen is set to choose a team of 17 players, 10 of which will be of American origin while 7 will be Israeli born and the first game to be played will be in Canada in July.
