Cricket in the Middle East? Yes, that's exactly what is going on in Israel as the country celebrates in 2006, the 50th anniversary of the first all Israeli match which took place between Tel Aviv and Be'er Sheva.
Cricket, the oh so British sport was introduced to Israel when the country was under rule from London and despite the British leaving in 1948, the country has kept a love with the sport.
In 1974, the country became an associate member of what is now known as the International Cricket Council. In 1996, Israel become a founder member of the European Cricket Council and has taken part in all four of its championships that have taken place.
This year's European Championships takes place in Scotland and Israel is once again taking part and has announced 19 players to attend the national team practices so that in July the final squad of 14 can be selected.
