The World Cup soccer games have brought to a sharp increase in sports betting in Israel. According to the Israel Sports Betting Board and other sports betting and gambling officials, gambling went up between 50-100 percent.

At the same time, the percentage of winners has increased and the betting and gambling companies have to shell out large sums of their proceeds.

The Israel Sports Betting Board (Toto) reported an income of NIS 70 million (roughly USD 15.7 million) from their Winner games since the beginning of the World Cup. Over 500,000 people have participated and prizes totaled NIS 50 million (USD 11.2 million).

The record income for betting for one day was broken last Friday and stands now at NIS 12 million (roughly USD 2.7 million).

The Gamebookers sports betting company which inaugurated its services in Israel two weeks ago has paid its global winners last Thursday over 2 million euros.
